Our History

Our History

The Revere Rome Division Employees Federal Credit Union was first chartered in January 1936. The Credit Union was originally opened as a small office near the gate in the mill at the Revere Copper and Brass. Revere employees, as well as their spouses and members of their immediate familes, were eligible to become members.

In June of 1980 a new building was erected on Seneca Street, just outside of the entrance to Revere Copper Products. In 1985 the Rome Municipal Employee Federal Credit Union merged with the Revere Employees Credit Union and the credit union name was changed to Rome Federal Credit Union.

By 1995 our membership grew to include employees of Revere Copper Products, Inc, Navelli Cadiliac, Davidson’s Chevrolet, Rome Memorial Hospital Employees and the entire City of Rome Employees.

In 2004 our logo was changed to Rome Federal “”Above and Beyond””. Memberhsip was also extended to several additional local businesses, including M & L Trucking, Kris-Tech Wire, Jet Sew, American Allow Steel, Jervis Library, Toccolano Club, Rome Housing Authority and MA Polce.

In 2007 the lobby and all the offices were completely updated.

In 2009 new management was set in place and unprecedented challenges faced the Rome Federal Credit Union and all natural person credit unions. The management team, staff and board remain focused on providing our members with the excellent customer service and competitive products that they have grown to appreciate.

For 2011, we looked to our youth for new membership enrollment with the addition of our Kids Savings plan and mascot, “Copper the Penny”. Copper brings us back to our Rome roots by paying tribute to Revere Copper and Brass and Rome, “The Copper City”.

We commemorated our 75th year in business during 2012 and on May 23rd we were honored to receive several accolades. The Mayor of the City of Rome proclaimed May 23, 2012 as “Rome Federal Credit Union Day”. The Senate and Assembly of the State New York adopted a resolution commemorating this milestone. The congress of the United States, the Rome area chamber of commerce, the Credit Union Association of New York, and the Credit Union National Association offered their congratulations as well.

In April of 2015 we installed a 24 hour ATM at our office and are pleased to announce that on April 13, 2015 the NCUA approved our application for expansion to a community charter. Now anyone who lives, works, worships or attends school in Rome or any business or legal entities in Rome can become a member.

We send a special thank you to those loyal members whom we consider to be our best asset, and we welcome those new members who have taken advantage of membership under our new community charter guidelines.

In 2016 we added chip technology to our debit cards to better protect our members against fraud and we hope to add other new product lines in the coming years.

Our management team will be changing and we hope you stop in to congratulate the following employees in their new positions:

  • Assistant Manager Karen Bailer will move into the role of Manager/CEO and Head Teller Amberly Seelig will take over as the new Assistant Manager.
